The Death of the Republican Party?

At last Thursday’s raucous GOP debate, Trump’s rivals called him a con man, a liar, and unfit for office. Yet absurdly, all the remaining candidates promised to support him if he’s nominated. Also last week, Mitt Romney called Trump a fraud and that he’s working against the GOP’s aspirations. He advised the remaining candidates to remain in the race and hope for a brokered convention.

 Celebrity Chart

The GOP horoscope (July 6, 1854; 12:00 pm; Jackson, MI) indicates that the Republican Party has actually been dying for several years, with transiting Pluto opposing the GOP’s Sun-Lilith conjunction shortly after Romney lost in 2012. In the so-called Autopsy Report, published on March 20, 2013, the Party brass concluded that Romney had been unkind to minorities and that the party should rebrand itself as a kinder, more inclusive GOP.

At the time, the GOP Saturn in Gemini was being hit by three outer planets: the social planets Jupiter and Saturn, and the planet of death and re-birth, Pluto. From this momentous admission, we can see how important Saturn is in this chart -- especially how it represents the party establishment, the elders. Flash forward to July 18, 2016 when the GOP convention begins the nomination process: transiting Saturn is opposing the GOP Saturn while transiting Neptune squares it.

The diffusing Saturn-Neptune square aligning with the GOP Saturn undermines the elders’ mandate, bringing confusion and disarray. Currently, the GOP is experiencing a progressed Mars-Chiron conjunction in Capricorn, which is being squared by transiting Uranus. This configuration reflects the wounded warriors (Cruz and Rubio) being upset by the independent, immigrant-bashing Trump (Uranus). The square from transiting Uranus becomes exact in two weeks, when the math* for staging a brokered convention reaches the critical make-or-break point.

The Saturn-Pluto Cycle

One of the most consequential outer planet cycles is the conjunction of Saturn and Pluto. About every 33 years when these two come together, the geopolitical climate becomes intensely charged with the need to confront evil, real or perceived. Government structures and authorities undergo a process of empowerment in order to take on threats. Conservative, reactionary, repressive forces arise to manage the evildoers.

Richard Tarnas, in his groundbreaking book "Cosmos & Psyche", writes that Saturn and Pluto coincide with "the establishment of rigid defensive boundaries and repressive political structures that were justified by the need for ‘vital security’." The last Saturn-Pluto conjunction took place when Ronald Reagan was elected, a time which brought a resurgence in religious fundamentalism and traditional American patriotism.

The previous conjunction in 1946-47 brought the Cold War and, in the U.S., numerous political and military structures to combat communism, including the CIA, the Defense Department, and NATO. And one cycle earlier, in 1914-15, global tension escalated dramatically and erupted in World War I. It’s curious that the two most likely candidates in this year’s election (Hillary and Trump) were both born during the 1946-47 conjunction of Saturn and Pluto.

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were also born during these powerful, shape-shifting years. Perhaps we’ve been feeling the influence of Saturn and Pluto’s next conjunction in 2020 already, because Pluto has been in Saturn’s sign since the economic collapse in 2008. The ongoing battle between Apple and the FBI over unlocking the iPhone shows us what we can expect over the next few years. Major wars, the tightening of borders, and establishment of authoritarian rule is normal under Saturn-Pluto cycles.

Megyn Kelly, Fox Moderator with an Edge

In the News-as-Entertainment Dept., Donald Trump faced his toughest opponent at last week’s debate, Fox News moderator Megyn Kelly. Since their previous encounter, the debate held last August, they’ve openly feuded across various media platforms. Initially polite in her opening remarks, minutes later Kelly highlighted the many times Trump changed his opinion, and severely fact-checked him in real time about Trump University.

 Celebrity Chart

Megyn Kelly was born with her Scorpio Sun conjunct Venus, Jupiter and Neptune (November 18, 1970; Syracuse, NY; time unknown), a combination that endows her with a strong sense of style and her own importance as projected through visual media. Her Scorpio stellium opposes Saturn in Taurus, giving her intense ambition as well as an innate sense of "us" versus "them". Kelly’s Sun also forms a tight square to Pallas in Aquarius, which suggests her interest in politics.

Kelly has Mars in Libra, which is generally considered a weak placement for one’s Inner Warrior. However, Mars conjoins Uranus, and so she thrives on excitement and high risk adventures. Mars is also exactly quincunx Saturn, and this is where her combative nature is evident. Mars here describes her on-screen personality as polite but firm (occasionally brutal), with lightning fast reactions. Mars-Saturn also describes the pent-up frustration waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

Trump bowed out when she was moderating the Iowa debate, but she saved her "gotcha" questions for last week. With transiting Uranus exactly opposing her Mars, she forcefully unleashed her points against Trump, over-riding Marco Rubio on stage with a curt "Stand-by!" Afterwards, the punditocracy was impressed. Over the next two years, Kelly will be experiencing a progressed Venus-Jupiter conjunction, which will undoubtedly reward her with whatever she wants.

Megyn Kelly's chart features close aspects involving Chiron, the Moon's Nodes, and the Black Moon Lilith, the points addressed in John Halloran's newly researched delineations, which you can add to your Personal Path or Spirit Success natal reports for a bundle price of $185.

Mercury square BlackMoon (Strength: 5.87)

This aspect can make you a very creative and active individual. Your thinking is more like an artist than an accountant. You tend to be a hard-working, unpretentious woman. You don't let success go to your head - you don't forget your roots. Employers like you because you are so professional about your work. You are willing to adapt and can set new trends. You are like a chameleon in your changeability. You have a good capacity for making friends. You may not have a career, but you could be active and influential within your church. You could strongly influence people's thinking, including that of your children. You could become a writer, one whose work explores the meaning of life. You can be vocally creative as a singer. You could excel as a model or artist. Your life could be quite a learning experience, but regardless of what happens, you do not believe in self-pity.

Sun square North Node (Strength: 4.69)

This aspect increases your intelligence and your ambition. It helps you to be self-reliant and determined. You could feel that you live and compete in a man's world. Your experiences could enable you to start a new career in business.

Neptune square North Node (Strength: 3.80)

This aspect causes you to see things from a different perspective. You are not predictable. Your willfulness, your refusal to act like everyone else, could expose you to lawsuits. As an actress you can give highly emotional performances. Reach out for support if you find yourself becoming dependent on alcohol or drugs. You have an active mind and a great imagination. You see the goal so clearly that you are willing to put up with the difficulties and upset involved in reaching it. This can make you forceful and effective.

Mercury trine Chiron (Strength: 3.63)

Your mastery of details gives you the gift of foresight, the ability to anticipate the future. Your work can make the future happen. You are a highly original, versatile, and inventive non-conformist. You do things your own way. This aspect improves your ability to juggle facts and finances. It makes you brilliant, sharp, and entertaining, but something of a geek. You have to make an effort to show tenderness and warmth. As long as you avoid cigarettes, you are likely to stay youthful looking.
