Years of Destiny

AstrolDeluxe Platinum can now generate an informative report for all the years of a person's life. It does this by calculating all of a person's solar returns. The yearly charts for all the moments when the Sun returns to its place at birth are destined in advance once a person is born. All the people with nearby birthdays may share the planetary aspects and sign placements that are in effect then, but not the chart angles that are determined both by the exact return moment and by where the person is residing. It says something about what kind of year the person will have if a planet is near one of the four chart angles in his or her solar return. Such a conjunction makes that planet prominent during the year. The astrology program is also capable of identifying planets that are in other close aspects to the angles, such as trine, square, parallel, and contraparallel. Besides the ten planets, significant other aspecting points include Chiron, the Moon's North Node, the Black Moon Lilith, Ceres, and Juno. The Years of Destiny report included with AstrolDeluxe Platinum version 11.4 interprets all of them. The meaningful solar return chart angles seem to be based on where the person is residing, instead of being stuck at the birth location. The angles do not, however, seem to be for an airport where the person might temporarily be at the moment of their solar return.

To calculate a person's Years of Destiny report, the solar return module does start with the birthplace, but then it interacts with the Life History events entered for that person in More Chart Data. If a dated event starts with "Moved to," "Moves to," or "Move to" then the program will look for the specified city and state or country in the PC Atlas. That location will be used for subsequent solar return years. If the location is not found in the PC Atlas, the report process will say so, providing the astrologer with the opportunity to go into the PC Atlas to find what the known location should be. For example, in my teen years we lived in the Hastings Ranch section of Pasadena, which the PC Atlas does not have, but calling up Pasadena, CA and doing a search with a 5 minute radius shows both East Pasadena and Michillinda as acceptable substitutes for Hastings Ranch. Practice should teach you how to add a corrected entry to the Life History events and to delete an incorrect entry. After making that change to More Chart Data for my record in my charts.cht collection, I saved the changes by clicking on the Save Only button, but you can also recalculate the chart and then Save Chart to File. The famousp.cht file provided for research, which you can select at File, Open Charts File, includes Life History events for Rod Stewart, who moved to Holmby Hills in CA which the PC Atlas does not have, but it does have Bel Air, CA. You can look up people such as Rod Stewart, Lois Rodden, or Arthur M. Young in famousp.cht to examine their many recorded Life History events. "Death from," "Death by," and "Death" are other dated events recognized by the Years of Destiny module, as seen at the end of Lois and Arthur's Life History events. When you are finished educating yourself, switch from famousp.cht back to your personal charts collection, which I always recommend be called charts.cht.

When you first run the Years of Destiny report, which you do by checking the Years of Destiny box at Options, Return Chart… and then clicking on OK, the program will copy the provided YEARS.SRA file to the working file SRADATA.TXT, a file of interpretations from which the program will subsequently draw in order to interpret all the possible aspects to the Ascendant and Midheaven. The two file names are different so that if you make changes to your SRADATA.TXT file, the changes will not be overwritten by reinstalling the program.

There is a fillable LIFEHIST.PDF file that an AstrolDeluxe version 11.4 or higher user can e-mail as an attachment from their c:\winastro folder to a potential Years of Destiny report subject. This is a convenient PDF form that opens in Adobe Reader and which allows the subject to enter and save a list of Life Events and then return the filled-out form to the astrologer. Just make sure that you save the filled-out and returned form somewhere other than the c:\winastro folder.

Life History form

You can then select and call up the saved chart record for the subject in your charts.cht file collection. If you do not see More Chart Data underneath Remarks on the Natal Information screen, look at the bottom of the drop-down Customization menu for Enable More Chart Data. Then there is a Life History tab to which you can transfer the subject's events from the PDF form. The dates are entered in Year/Month/Day order and you should be able to copy a selected event with Control-C to the clipboard and paste the event into the program with Control-V. Events will automatically be sorted by date. After you Close the Life History form, make sure that you save the updated chart record, either with the Save Only button or by saving the chart. Dated event notes from the Life History will be converted to all upper-case and automatically sorted by date order into the Years of Destiny report, after the interpretations for any close aspects to the angles for that year. You can see the first example of an upper-case Life Event in the following sample report if you jump ahead to the year 1959.

The report is called Years of Destiny because important events are not astrologically facilitated by close aspects to the angles for every year or even for most years of a person's life. It helps a person to appreciate which were the astrologically predestined years in their life. The report puts the focus on certain events or activities that were predestined since birth. It helps a person psychologically to know that there was a meaningful plan and reason for their life and experiences. It can also help a person to look ahead several years to see the future's general direction.

It was not necessary to enter any life events for the first saved chart in famousp.cht, homerun record-hitting baseball player Hank Aaron, in order to see the solar return aspects in his early life which, through astrological ontogenesis, put him on the path to athletic greatness. If you spend enough time with these reports, you could learn enough to advise others as to the patterns that you see.

A person's life is an important and precious thing. The astrologer can play an important role in validating a subject's perceptions and in responsibly helping a person to claim, own, and appreciate their life, using the valuable tools provided by the astrology program. It is true that you can gain clients by sending out the LIFEHIST.PDF file, but then you must prove yourself worthy of the trust that the client puts in you by sharing his or her intimate life details, by you working to input the data correctly in order to get the client his or her accurate life overview report, and then answering astrological questions that the client might have. Working with a client might become an iterative quest for understanding as the client may have additional remembrances and may want to receive his or her most up-to-date life report.
